Privacy Policy
Happie plans your dinners and orders your groceries. Here is what that means for your data, in plain words.
The short version
- We only collect what Happie needs to plan your dinners and fill your basket.
- We never sell your data and never show you ads.
- Your Picnic password never touches our servers, only an encrypted login token.
- You can ask us to export or delete everything at any time.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name, email address and profile picture from Google when you sign in.
- Your household. Who you share a household with, how many people you cook for, and invites you send.
- Your preferences. Allergies, diets, disliked ingredients, kitchen equipment, cooking time limits and facts the assistant remembers about your tastes.
- What you make. Your recipes, bookmarked recipes, meal plans, grocery lists and conversations with the assistant.
- Delivery connections. When you connect Picnic, an encrypted login token and the account name, so Happie can fill your basket. Never your password.
- Usage. How much AI each request used, so we can keep costs and limits in check. We track usage per account with self-hosted Umami.
How we use it
To plan your meals, write recipes, build grocery lists and order them for you, and to keep the service running and secure. Allergies and diets are used to keep you safe: the assistant will not suggest food that conflicts with them. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
Only the services that make Happie work, each bound to process your data for us alone:
- OpenAI runs the AI assistant. Your messages and household preferences are sent with each request. OpenAI does not train on API data.
- Picnic receives the groceries you ask Happie to add to your basket.
- Google handles sign-in.
- Resend delivers the emails we send, such as household invites.
AI apps you connect yourself, such as Claude, can read and change your Happie data through the access you grant them. You can revoke that access at any time.
Where it lives
Your data is stored in our own database and file storage, on servers we run ourselves. Delivery tokens are encrypted at rest. Everything travels over HTTPS. A small number of administrators can view an account read-only to help with support.
Cookies
We use a single cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser keeps a local cache so the app opens quickly. No tracking or advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, your personal data is removed. Recipes you shared with a household stay with that household.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email us and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
